Birthday Sweet

1.24.2012
The Miette cookbook is beyond adorable and I now have my very own copy thanks to my dear friend Christine. Happy Birthday to me! I discovered Miette at the San Francisco Ferry Building circa 2005 and have been in love with their sweet and perfectly girly style ever since. I'm completely looking forward to poring over every single scalloped page of this cookbook. And then I will bake! I think the first thing I'll try is my favorite goodie of theirs: the old fashioned cupcake. What a treat!

Croutons

1.18.2012
What do you do with the dry ends of a loaf of bread? I like to make toast with them, but honestly, sometimes they just get tossed. And I hate to waste food.

So this morning while I was making breakfast, I had a great thought... make croutons! I buttered and seasoned both sides of some stale bread with garlic salt and pepper, and put them in the toaster oven. I let the pieces get fairly dark, then cut them into cubes and put them back in (this time on the pan, of course, so they wouldn't fall through the rack). It took just a few minutes to crisp those cut edges.

I let them cool and dry out a bit, and tasted one (or three). Delicious. I think I'll have a salad for lunch...

Cozy Feet

'Tis the season for being warm and cozy. What better way to keep toasty than with a cute pair of slippers? Here are a few I would love to own.

January Uplift

1.10.2012
Though I tend to prefer a clean, uncluttered kind of decor, sometimes after un-decorating Christmas, things can look a little plain or empty. But there are some very simple ways to refresh for January and the winter months. Like a new pillow on the sofa, or a simple vase of fresh flowers on the entry table.

What's your favorite quickie for refreshing your home?
